Your health ? your concern!
Did you know that your oral health is closely linked to your general well-being? No? Well, here are some important facts you might find interesting.

Diabetes
A huge number of people in our country are diabetic and don’t even know it. According to estimates, there are around
10 million (!) diabetics, i.e. at least one in ten of the population has diabetes. We can also see the consequences in your mouth:
the gums get badly inflamed very quickly and teeth are easily lost because of "periodontitis".

Immune weakness
There are many kinds of lowered immune resistance; AIDS, the end-stage of HIV infection, has become particularly well-known. Apart from this, we should also bear in mind the various types of leukaemia, which have similar consequences. Like diabetes, the disease is evident to us as increased inflammation of the gums.

Smoking
Smokers lose their teeth much faster than non-smokers: that’s a proven fact. In addition, a lot of treatments can be carried out with smokers but (unfortunately) the prospects of success are lower or non-existent; this includes treatments of the gums (to treat periodontitis) as well as implant treatments (implants heal far worse in smokers than in non-smokers). Any operation in the mouth will also go less well in smokers. This is why you should really think about your smoking - it is not only damaging your lungs…

Here we have listed the most important problems, but there are obviously many more. Therefore we would strongly advise you that, if we detect a noticeable disease (e.g. badly inflamed gums), please go and see your GP and get yourself checked out - it might be due to a serious underlying condition!
